A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig was pardoned in a ritual at the restaurant.

The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
