Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
