Both Deceased Students Identified in Brown University Incident as Authorities Press On With Search for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who died in the recent violent attack on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter continued following the discharge by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, the group said. The White House press secretary also expressed words of sorrow online, stating: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 detained in a raid at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”

Community Anxiety

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our community”.

The gunman began shooting inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official reported to the news agency.

Officers that entered the lodging seized a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the individual was taken into custody, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Of the nine hurt, one student was released from the hospital, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, police said on Sunday.

A private school, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at Brown University she was a shining example in that institution as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, loved ones, and peers and lament the passing of his potential.”
