Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Versus the Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their first Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the ALCS.
Behind three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a four games to three victory in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for our team, our city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd prefer in that situation except for him with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the sole team that has never reached in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their work throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
