A two-month voyage around Australia was terminated in the wake of the death of an older woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a break. The vessel left without her and came back later that day after the personnel discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her body the next day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, in coordination with investigators and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an revised communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" banning any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in the Australian city upon its return.

Timeline of Events

The liner first departed the coastal city on October 24th, and was just two days into the journey at the time of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Guests on the vessel - who usually pay large sums of dollars to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of walking or snorkelling.

Family Statement

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "stunned and distressed that the vessel left Lizard Island after an scheduled excursion without my mum".

In her statement, she characterized her mother as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a hiking organization.

"According to scant details we have been informed, it appears that there was a breakdown of attention and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She added that she wished the investigation would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have protected Mum's existence".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mum fell ill on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"She was asked her to return, alone. Then the boat sailed away, reportedly without doing a headcount.

"At some stage in that sequence, or shortly after, mum passed away, by herself."

Company Position

Through an announcement, the CEO affirmed that the operator was "working closely with officials to support their inquiry".

He stated that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had offered its full support to the loved ones.

The vessel accommodates up to one hundred twenty passengers with 46 personnel, according to company information. It was specifically designed to reach remote areas of the Australian coastline and is equipped with "tenders" - small boats used to ferry passengers on shore trips.

Incidents like this are rare, and cruise ships have procedures to document which individuals are embarking or leaving, according to maritime specialists.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard really isn't an option," one expert commented.

Cruise lines regard these methods very seriously and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such occurrences from occurring," the expert further stated.
