Heartbreaking Update on UPS Incident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The tally of fatalities due to the freight aircraft that caught fire and went down has climbed to 13, according to official reports.

City Leader's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ vigil, I was informed of a 13th person that died as a result of the plane incident,” wrote the local official in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the loved ones, associates and peers of all who were taken in this week’s disaster. We will endure this as one.”

Casualties Identified

A statement from the company identified the flight crew aboard the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts go out to every staff member who has been affected and all in our Louisville community – helping you and guaranteeing you receive the support and resources you need is our priority,” the organization’s communication stated.

Investigation Details

Government investigators revealed that the jet’s port side wing ignited and an engine separated just after takeoff from the aviation hub, leading to the aircraft to plummet and erupt into a inferno.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is probing the aircraft’s service record, which was in Texas for repairs weeks ahead of the accident.

Flight tracking data indicated the plane was on the runway in that location from early September to 18 October.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was present in the facility,” stated an official on the following day, not giving a precise date range. “We will examine all elements of maintenance that was completed, from the San Antonio visit, all the way to the day of the journey.”

Findings of Critical Components

The audio device and flight data recorder were retrieved, and the power plant was discovered on the tarmac.

The units – known as flight recorders – were designed to endure accident forces and intense heat from fires, and they appeared to be undamaged when found within the remains. Officials will examining information from the devices.

Jet’s last flight details indicated an height of 475 feet and a rate of that speed prior to the accident.

Repair Background

Based on Federal Aviation Administration records from 18 September, a fissure on a structural piece inside the center wing fuel tank demanded maintenance.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it offers airframe maintenance for the company’s MD-11 and operates a service location in San Antonio, refused to comment, but said it would work closely when investigators reached out it.

Activities Restart

In the meantime, the hub services continued Wednesday night with its express or nighttime procedure, representative Jim Mayer said. The three tarmacs at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were likewise open again.

The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the firm’s most significant. The hub hires over twenty thousand workers in the locality, processes 300 flights per day and sorts more than 400,000 packages an hour.

Public Reaction

A memorial was held on the night of 6 November by the local Teamsters Union, which acts for workers at the Louisville airport, the organization’s largest air cargo hub.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents employees, began the gathering with a moment of silence at that time, the estimated moment of the crash two days earlier.

“This incident was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the mayor addressed the assembly of attendees. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any one of those who we have lost.”
