Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, but many fans holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he told the podcast host: “I said I will never coach another team on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so I could make the decision later on, I don’t know. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions must arise to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits around the place. I still have the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him due to the changes that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly about the death of Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. The forward lost his life in a car crash with his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the squad without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A devastating blow for all the boys as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is not easy. Impossible.”
