Kansas Senator Roger Marshall reportedly stated prior to the protests: "It's necessary to get the National Guard."

Texas Democrat Gene Wu argued: "Dispatching equipped military personnel to quell peaceful demonstrations is exactly what dictators and tyrants do — and Greg Abbott just proved he's among them."
