New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” he added. “But I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD issued security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
