Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
