Soccer Expert Sutton Battles Singer Murs in Premier League Forecasts

Arsenal's 10-game winning streak was ended by the Black Cats prior to the international hiatus, but can the Premier League frontrunners bounce back against north London rivals Tottenham this Sunday?

"{I feel like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a plan for this game," remarked football expert Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will try to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling best this season - but Mikel Arteta's team usually still find a way to win."

Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League fixtures this term, against artificial intelligence, readers and a range of guests.

For week 12, he faces singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United fan.

Murs' latest album, Knees Up, is out on the weekend.

Soccer and Parenting Experiences

Olly is a skilled footballer as well as a accomplished artist and has been a featured player of multiple charity football games over time - but he is not planning a serious comeback as a player.

"{I actually played in a charity game the other night for a mate of mine," he said. "My side was trailing 3-1 when I was substituted in the second half, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!

"I still love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it even now isn't where I want it to be. I wish I could play more but the unpredictability of the sport means it's too dangerous for me in my career to do it properly again.

"Additionally I am forty-one now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am preparing for the time that my daughter or son chooses to play instead."

The singer and his spouse Amelia Tank have a young family, their daughter and Albert, and he is ready to emulate his dad by becoming their manager.

"I won't push football on our children but I've previously told my wife that if they happen to get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will likely be coaching their weekend soccer side," he said.

"I observed my nephews play a lot, and I truly got into it, and I obviously owned a football club for a while too.

"My father coached with us when I was a kid, which is probably where I get it from. He coached our team for several seasons and had a wonderful time with it. That might be the future for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea might have to be patient for Cole Palmer's return from fitness issues but their attack is already stronger with Joao Pedro and Delap both returned to fitness.

I still think this game will be fairly tight, however. The Clarets are disciplined and their sole at Turf Moor defeats so far have been against Liverpool and the Gunners.

This suggests a 1-1 draw to me, but I am in fact going to go with Chelsea to edge it for what would be their third consecutive league win in a row.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

The singer's pick: Chelsea will be too strong. 1-3

AI's prediction: 0-2

The Cherries have lost their past two games - albeit both of them were on the road - but they got absolutely spanked by Aston Villa last time out which surprised me.

In contrast, West Ham won two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at home, they do look competitive again.

The Hammers' only away victory this season came at Forest in the summer, when their boss Nuno Espirito Santo was still Forest coach.

Therefore, what exactly do I predict here - will it be the Hammers extending their run under their manager, or Bournemouth responding?

I am going to choose the Cherries, because I believe what occurred against Villa was a anomaly.

The pundit's prediction: 2-0

Olly's prediction: Bournemouth are performing strongly but West Ham have improved under their boss. 2-2

AI's prediction: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

Brentford were seen as one of the frontrunners for relegation before the season began, but they have surprised a few people under Keith Andrews and are in good form with three wins in their past four games.

My son advised me to get Bees forward Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer squad a few weeks ago and, guess what, I ignored the advice.

The forward will probably find the net again on the weekend but I am nonetheless not going to pick him or back Brentford at Brighton's ground.

The Bees have not had great success on the road this season, and Brighton are consistently decent at their stadium. Brentford will try to hit them on the counter-attack but I feel the home manager's side pose much more of a danger.

The analyst's prediction: 2-1

Olly's view: This could be one of those games where you expect there is going to be a many scores but it in reality proves to be quite tight. 1-1

AI's outcome: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a huge game for Fulham, who have suffered defeat in five of their past six games.

Fulham have have plenty of quality in their team but it nonetheless feels like they could be sucked into a relegation battle.

As for the Black Cats, well they are the surprise package of the Premier League campaign so far.

The away side's performance in the two-all tie with Arsenal last time out was excellent. We've not seen any other team disrupt the North London side like that this season, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.

The sensible thing would be to back the visitors here, because they are obviously capable of disrupting the hosts up too and, the previous occasion they were in west London, they beat Chelsea at the end of October.

However I am not choose that. Instead, I really need to carry on opposing the away team with my forecasts. I am taking a lot of responsibility for their positive outcomes because they clearly enjoy to defy my predictions.

Looking at the home side's at Craven Cottage record, the only team they have been defeated by is the league leaders. Marco Silva's side will be absolutely desperate for a positive outcome, so I am going to say they will pick up three much-needed points.

The expert's forecast: 1-0

Olly's prediction: I know Sunderland are performing strongly and additionally that the hosts are on a bad streak... but they have nonetheless been respectable at home this season. 2-0

AI's prediction: 2-0

It is a hard fixture to predict. The Reds have suffered seven of their last ten games in all competitions, but could they be one of the sides who profit from the {international break|
