People have gathered throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The assault led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are considered accurate by the UN and other world agencies.

"Our violent opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The government authorities postponed formal memorials until 16 October - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was held in the coastal city. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was aired on Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was observed around the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking Palestinian official familiar with the talks said that an late session of indirect talks started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source stated the day's discussions finished without significant progress, amid disagreements over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the agreement.

He commented that the talks are "tough and have still not produce any real breakthrough," but noted that intermediaries are striving to reduce the disparities between the two sides.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The trade of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Post-war governance of the region

Public Feeling

In the city's memorial area that day, young Hagar - whose brother lived through the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "Nowhere seems like home anymore and until every captive are released not a single person will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home once more, we can feel relief once more. Then we can start to heal," she added.

Outside the leader's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to demonstrate their support for the families of the hostages. Israel states nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be alive.

Protester Atalia Regev explained: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the hostages to come back home. But we sincerely need promises that we will be protected."

Research now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of Israeli citizens want the conflict to end in exchange for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Situation

At the location of the gathering, mourners came together to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people indicated the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In Gaza City, attacks were noted in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side neighborhood, area and zone areas and in the eastern area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"As the evening comes, the anxiety appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli air strike last year, shared.

"My family are afraid of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are resting together, holding each other, notably my youngest child who places his face on me all night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the war will come back to us."

Health Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City reported it had received the bodies of several people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the south region of the city said two more dead people had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for aid to the southern area, medics stated.

Gaza's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
