In a significant move for their retooling roster, the American League club have signed slugger Munetaka Murakami, finalizing a two-year contract for the power-hitting player.

Deal Structure and Added Benefits

The deal features a substantial signing bonus, issued within 30 days, combined with salaries of $16M for the 2026 season and $17 million for the 2027 year.

Importantly, Murakami's compensation is subject to escalators based on accolade achievements in 2026:

• $1 million for being named the Most Valuable Player award.
• $500,000 for finishing as runner-up or in third place in MVP voting.
• $250,000 for ranking in the top ten.
• Another $250,000 for winning the ROY honor.

His deal includes that he will not be optioned to the minor leagues without his consent and allows him to become a free agent at the end of the contract. Additional perks include a dedicated interpreter and airfare between the U.S. and Japan.
