The visionary game developer, the mind behind the globally famous first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in Los Angeles, California at the age of 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio he co-founded.

The celebrated industry figure died after his automobile collided and caught fire on a motorway in the Los Angeles area on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This represents an unimaginable loss, and we stand with Vince's family, his family, and the countless individuals inspired by his legacy," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts stated.
